Shane and Gilbert Rousset Stable lands a Triple

Duchesse Day, and world famous jockey Shane Dye, landed a triple, which included a Group 2 race win on Disa Leader in the main event in just 1.23.50s, running close to the Mauritius track record of 1.22.99s.

Shane started with a brilliantly composed ride in the first race on Pieces of Eight, a maiden, to give him his first ever careers win. Still young, Pieces of Eight would certainly give their owners few more wins this season, especially with Shane on board.

Shane then rode Sergeant Major to his first Mauritius win in the second race of the day. Again, a nice tactical move at the right time saw the gelding run away beating his opponent by more than 3 lengths.

Shane then completed his hat trick on Disa Leader in the Leal Group Duchesse of York Cup, a Group 2 race and one of the four most prestigious races in the Mauritian racing calendar (known locally as a “classic” race).

This was his first hat trick for the current season, which also brought the reigning Champion Jockey to 4th place in the race to the Jockey’s Championship and brought the reigning Champion Stable to 2nd place, after only 8 meetings.

Shane has an amazing strike rate of 75% running into the money out of just 32 rides.

Disa Leader also tops the “Best Horse of the Year” table with his first win on local turf.
